TORONTO — The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is pleased to announce the election of Liza Mauer and Beth Horowitz as Co-Presidents, AGO Board of Trustees. Ms. Mauer and Ms. Horowitz were elected by the AGO Board of Trustees for a 3-year term, following the AGO’s Annual General Meeting on June 25, 2025.
Liza Mauer has been a member of the AGO Board of Trustees since 2016, bringing extensive leadership experience from the museum sector (Trustee, New Museum, New York; Member, North American Tate Acquisitions Committee; Member and Vice-Chair, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery) and non-profit sector (Past President, Partners in Art; Advisory, Delfina Foundation; Management, Sick Kids Hospital Foundation). Liza has been actively involved in AGO volunteer leadership roles, assisting in the founding of the Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora department and previously acting as Vice-President, Board of Trustees and Board Committee Chair (Advancement Committee; Education and Programming Committee; and Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora Acquisition Committee).
Beth Horowitz has been a member of the AGO Board of Trustees since 2004, bringing extensive leadership, strategy and marketing experience from the private and nonprofit sectors (former President & CEO, Amex Bank of Canada and Amex Canada, Inc) and in governance and enterprise risk management (Board Member, Northland Properties; Advisory Board Member, Women’s Venture Capital Fund; President, TSCC 1435 Condo Corporation; Former Board Member, HSBC Bank Canada). Beth has been actively involved in AGO volunteer leadership roles, previously acting as Board Committee Chair (Finance Committee; Corporate Working Committee), Fundraising Gala Co-Chair (2007; 2024) and Treasurer, American Friends of the AGO Board.
In the Co-Presidency model, Ms. Mauer and Ms. Horowitz will each take on official signing authority as President for consecutive periods of 18 months for a total of 3 years. Ms. Mauer and Ms. Horowitz succeed Rupert Duchesne, C.M. as President, AGO Board of Trustees, having held the position since 2021. Mr. Duchesne will remain a Trustee, and Chair the Governance & Nominating Committee.
The AGO Board of Trustee members are volunteer positions, responsible for governance of the Art Gallery of Ontario. The AGO is grateful to the commitment of its Board of Trustee leadership and appreciates the perspectives and expertise that members bring to the museum.
