While strolling through Impressionism in the Age of Industry: Monet, Pissarro and more, are you feeling inspired by the amazing works of Degas, Monet and Pissarro? Us, too. And to help satisfy your urge to create, we’ve designed a series of art courses to help bring out your inner Impressionist.

The Impressionist movement was revolutionary for its choice of subject matter as well as style; they focused on capturing scenes from everyday life. Unlike many of the art movements that came before, they used a loose and expressive style, rather than focusing on realism and played with perspective in their work. Sound intriguing? We think so. As you get ready to grab your paintbrush, pencils and a camera, here’s a bit more about our Impressionism Today art courses.

Painting Explorations: Impressionism Today

Create a modern Monet. Taking a cue from the Impressionists who captured scenes of a swiftly changing Paris, this course will look to the city of Toronto for inspiration. Focusing on techniques made famous by the Impressionists, you will capture natural light, work with a thick application of paint to create a sense of depth and texture and more.

Watercolour Explorations: Impressionism Today

Watercolour lends itself easily to the Impressionist style, mimicking their love of wet-on-wet paint, which allowed for a soft “impression” of a subject or scene. In this course, you’ll harness the unique properties of watercolour painting and learn a variety of application techniques. Using hands-on experimentation through quick exercises, you’ll create detailed, frame-worthy works.

Photography Explorations: Impressionism Today

Get your camera ready! In Photography Explorations you’ll find out about how the popularity of photography impacted the rise of Impressionism and take a look at the
relationship between photography and painting. Using various techniques, you’ll learn to create emotional and atmospheric images of the city that resonate with both the painterly and photographic styles of the Impressionist period.
