The AGO’s first-ever youth-produced web series – Inner Space – is back with a brand new season. The monthly series is co-curated by the AGO Youth Advisory and the AGO and features young artists from across Canada giving personal tours of their studios. Making visible a new generation of diverse creatives, the series gives a unique platform to young curators and artists while delivering youth-led digital content.

The current iteration of the AGO Youth Advisory is project-based and made up of 12 youth ages 16-25 from across Canada. Meeting bi-weekly from October 2022 to June 2023, this paid opportunity tasked Advisory members with curating Inner Space artists from their communities. The six-episode Inner Space web series season two launched in March 2023, with episode one featuring visual artist Emerald Repard-Denniston. Watch below.

Shortly after the season two premiere, we spoke with AGO Programs Curator, Youth, Sarah Febbraro about her time spearheading this project.

Febbraro: “Centering youth ideas and emerging artists within a museum like the AGO is powerful because it communicates that we value what youth have to say about the world we live in even if they are not established yet in their careers.”

AGO Youth Advisory member Chloe Gordon-Chow, shared her reflections on Inner Space.

Gordon-Chow: “I have immensely enjoyed being part of the AGO Youth Advisory Committee these past six months. I have had the privilege of being introduced to and working with 11 inspiring youth from across Canada. I am so proud of the community that we have established and the incredible program that we have co-curated for the 2023 Inner Space web series. I have learned so much from my peers and feel that we have genuinely created a supportive space for sharing our upcoming art projects and future initiatives amongst the group.”

Keep up with Inner Space and the AGO Youth Advisory here. Stay tuned for episode two featuring artist Brandon Hoax, coming soon.
