Look:Forward
The AGO brings people together with art to see, experience and understand the world in new ways. That mission takes on a whole new dimension with Look:Forward, an exciting reinstallation of the AGO Collection.
The AGO brings people together with art to see, experience and understand the world in new ways. That mission takes on a whole new dimension with Look:Forward, an exciting reinstallation of the AGO Collection.
Look:Forward aims to build on the momentum started with the Transformation AGO project in 2008 by adding great art to all public spaces, ensuring that our best artwork is on display and celebrating a legacy of donor generosity. Led by the vision of the AGO’s curators, the project is guided by three values: to celebrate exceptional art by presenting the very best of our Collection; to inspire meaningful and engaging experiences for our visitors; and to be relevant to our changing audiences by reflecting and strengthening the vibrancy and possibility of Toronto.
Each curator is paying special attention to artists who have been underrepresented and deserve recognition. We hope to challenge the status quo by aspiring to reflect varied voices that broaden our understanding of the world.
Once completed, this project will bring you 70,000 sq. ft. of new installations across more than 50 galleries, including public spaces that were previously without art. With increased floor space committed to the Collection, we will present more art from each of our collecting areas: Canadian, Indigenous, European, Modern & Contemporary, Photography, and Prints & Drawings.
Already underway, the reinstallation process will be completed in Spring 2019.
But don’t worry – the artworks you love aren’t going away! Through Look:Forward, you’ll continue to see your old favourites, and you’ll find new treasures. And best of all: there will be great art at every turn.
A small number of galleries will be closed on a rolling basis for reinstallation efforts. Those spaces will be clearly marked on site, and you’ll see updates in the green box at the top of this page so that you can plan your visit in advance.
