After Hours: Outsiders

May 16, 2016

Outsiders features ground-breaking photographs and films from the 1950s to the 1980s, a time of intense political and cultural transformation in the United States. The artists in this exhibition - Diane Arbus, Garry Winogrand, Danny Lyon, Nan Goldin, Gordon Parks, and more - harnessed the descriptive and expressive capacities of their chosen media to bring to light the complex relationships between insiders and outsiders. Together, their photographs and films offered alternate visions to the dominant cultures of the day, and ultimately changed the image of the American life.
