AGO Live: Electric (Disco) Circus
Join us as we celebrate the cultural impact of Studio 54 with the help of DJs V∆NESS∆ and Pammm as they explore the underground legacy of Electric Circus, Toronto's dance party from the 90s.
Electric Circus, like Studio 54, was also a place to be seen dancing and looking fashionable. Instead of New York's Lower East Side, it was right in the heart of downtown Toronto at the historic CityTV building. Unlike Studio 54, it was a televised dance party, making it accessible to those watching at home, and those who braved Canadian winters to get their groove on. Join us to explore how the fashion and music of Studio 54’s disco vibes have been mirrored by those of Electric Circus.
DJs V∆NESS∆ and Pammm have been a part of Toronto’s music scene since the aughties, creating and DJing their own parties. They started Electric Circus as a way to pay homage to the original party they watched and dreamed about being on when they were young. Staying true to the show’s timeframe they only play dance and house music from 1988 – 2003. In the spirit of nostalgic party vibes, they give out glow-sticks, candy necklaces and the occasional cowboy hat and feather boa. They also encourage '90s fashion, dancing on stage and a carefree attitude. They want to make sure everybody is going to have a great time dancing and sweating to their favourite house music, dance anthems and guilty pleasures.
