AGO X RBC Emerging Artists Workshop - Me: Being Online

Mark your calendars for a series of professional development workshops to discuss trends and issues in self-representation, digital art and career development. Our panelists will provide practical advice for emerging artists looking for opportunities of growth and mentorship.

In this discussion moderated by Alexa Greist, panelists Hanif Janmohamed, Zarina Muhammad and Timothy Yanick Hunter will reflect on what it means to be an artist working in digital realms and the associated possibilities/challenges attendant to that. We will focus on the following questions:

  • What is the best way to present or represent your many selves?

  • How is your work an extension of you? How do you share and/or sell your digital selves?

  • And how do museums respond − or not − to digital self-representation and self-preservation?

Timothy Yanick Hunter is a multidisciplinary artist and curator based in Toronto. Hunter's practice employs strategies of bricolage to examine non-neutral relationships relating to Black and Afro-diasporic experiences as well as concurrent strategies of decolonization. His approach alternates between exploratory and didactic; with a focus on the political, cultural and social richness of the Black Diaspora. Hunter's work often delves into speculative narratives and the intersections of physical space, digital space and the intangible.

Zarina Muhammad The White Pube is the collaborative identity of Gabrielle de la Puente and Zarina Muhammad under which they publish reviews and essays about art, video games and food. You can find them at thewhitepube.com or on Twitter and Instagram at @thewhitepube.
