A Fairytale for Joyce

Friday, September 26, Wednesday, November 5, & Sunday, January 4
5th Floor Contemporary Tower

Join Canadian theatre luminaries Tanja Jacobs and Kristen Thomson as they imagine Joyce Wieland attending her own exhibition, evoking Joyce's relationship to her legacy, her work and herself. Developed through improvisations and inspired by Joyce's singular and vivacious artistic output, this is a special commission by the AGO for the Joyce Wieland Heart On exhibition.

The AGO would like to acknowledge the generous support from the Richard and Beryl Ivey Canadian Art Fund.

Tanja Jacobs has been making theatre as a director and an actress in Canada for over forty years. Companies she has worked with include Crow's Theatre, Soulpepper Theatre, Canadian Stage, The Shaw Festival, Tarragon Theatre, The National Arts Centre, The Stratford Festival, Necessary Angel and Theatre Porte Parole. For her work as an actress in Toronto, Tanja has received 11 Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations and 3 Dora awards. She is the recipient for the Gina Wilkinson Prize for a female director.

Kristen Thomson is an award-winning actor and writer, working in theatre, film, and television for over 30 years.  Kristen is the playwright and performer of I, Claudia, first produced at Tarragon Theatre and later at Crow’s Theatre. She also wrote The Wedding Party and Someone Else for Crow’s Theatre.  Her play The Patient Hour premiered at Tarragon Theatre and a French translation was presented by Theâtre de la Manufacture in Montreal.
