Mark Rothko and the Inner World
Join writer and psychologist Christopher Rothko for a talk about the work and legacy of Mark Rothko (1903–1970), the world-renowned icon of Abstract Expressionism. Christopher, the younger of the artist’s two children, will offer a unique perspective on this modern master. Drawing on an intimate knowledge of the artworks, Rothko will explore the ways the paintings foster a profound connection between viewer and artist through form, color, and scale.
Christopher Rothko is a writer and psychologist. He is actively involved in managing Mark Rothko’s artistic estate. He has written extensively about his relationship with his father and his art, notably in the book Mark Rothko. From the Inside Out. He has also curated several exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world. He recently co-curated the first retrospective of Rothko’s work in France at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Moments in Modernism.
