Rebel Quilt: Exploring Needlecraft, Textiles, Personal Expression and Resistance Through the Art of Quilting

Friday, September 19, 6 - 9 pm, 2025
Walker Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

Quilting has always been bold, subversive, political, even punk rock. It’s quiet renegade spirit – too often overlooked – is exactly what makes it the art world’s unsung anti-hero.

Join The Neon Needle for a hands-on Quilting Experience inspired by the Joyce Weiland: Heart On exhibition: Learn essential hand-sewing techniques, uncover surprising insights into what makes quilting so powerful, and create your own quilt block to take home and admire.

The Neon Needle is a Creative Sewing, Needlecraft, Fashion, Textile, and Leathercraft Studio. We believe there’s something magical, empowering, and deeply rewarding about making things with your hands. For over 13 years, we’ve taught everyone from curious beginners to seasoned professionals, sharing our knowledge and trade secrets along the way. We believe everyone has a creative side, and we're dedicated to providing the structure, support, and welcoming environment you need to explore yours.
