Rembrandt was a great storyteller and an acute observer. He approached his subjects with deep sympathy and insight, capturing the passage of time in face and figure. We’ll examine the way he handles paint, balances light and shadow, and fuses detail and atmosphere to portray his sitters with compassion and create an emotionally honest tableau. This workshop combines a tour and sketching in the exhibition, with a session of drawing in the gallery school. Presented as part of Painted Presence: Rembrandt and his Peers.
