Seniors Social: Inspired by Arnold Newman
Make new artistic connections and spark conversations! Join us for our Seniors Social program, a monthly workshop series for older adults that combines conversations with art and artmaking. The AGO believes providing opportunities to experience art and artmaking increases well-being.
Arnold Newman's rise to fame came about largely because of the commissions he received from magazines. In this session, we’ll explore the power of black and white portraiture, and Newman's particular "environmental" approach to capturing the essence of his subjects.
We'll ask participants to come to this session with a photograph of someone important in your life (a celebrity, political figure, family member/friend, anything goes!). We'll ask folks to consider how you might best situate this individual to capture their personality. Is there some object that helps define them and/or your relationship to them? Participants will be guided through creating a value drawing that helps capture the dramatic impact of black and white portraiture.
