Textile Art as Reclamation
Learn different textile art-making skills such as weaving, screen printing, and sewing with a waste-conscious approach from local textile artist Norwin Anne. Textile Art as Reclamation offers an introduction to these textile-based practices while prompting reflections about the fabric of our society through a creative process that aims to inspire cultural reclamation.
WEAVING WORKSHOPS (November 6, 13, 20)
An introduction to a traditional art form that will use modern methods of reclaimed materials.
SCREEN PRINTING WORKSHOPS (November 27 - December 4, 11)
Participants will learn how to silk screen protest art designs made by Norwin Anne on reclaimed textiles and basic sewing skills. The fabric prints can be used as patches sewn onto clothing to wear as a political statement and resistance fashion.
Norwin Anne is a Filipinx multidisciplinary artist/designer, (re)maker and eco-culture communicator. They studied Fashion Techniques and Design at George Brown College with a waste-conscious approach and slow fashion mentality. Primarily working with second-hand materials, they started focusing on textile waste as a research study during school, which evolved into learning more about our waste culture to understand its environmental impacts and beyond. They want to continue developing their ideas and merge their fashion knowledge with other subjects by creating wearable art and installations to visually translate complex topics through culture jamming.
