Visualizing Toronto Imaginaries: Magazines and Metadata with Felicity Tayler

Wednesday October 24, 7 - 8:30
E.P. Taylor Library & Archives, Art Gallery of Ontario

Join Felicity Tayler as she discusses her research into the social networks of three magazines, Fireweed, Fuse, and Border/Lines, which emerged between 1976 and 1986 in Toronto.

Using network analysis, Tayler creates visual images that map the social ties among writers, designers, editors and others who shaped these publications. In this talk, Tayler proposes that these network diagrams are the visual traces of imagined communities formed in the pages of the magazines, and she explores whether these diagrams are meaningful to the actual lived experience of Toronto’s activist, arts and cultural scenes.

Felicity Tayler is a scholar, artist, librarian, and independent curator. She is presently an Arts and Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow in art history at the University of Toronto, and she was recently appointed E-Research Librarian at the University of Ottawa.
