EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

An exhibition of community art on the construction hoarding in Grange Park.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is part of a vibrant neighborhood with a diverse history. At the heart of the community are individuals, groups and organizations who guide children’s development, give voice to youth and create opportunities for cultural expression.

Since the 1930’s local residents and AGO staff and volunteers have met in Grange Park to celebrate the importance of the arts within this thriving civic culture. These encounters have cultivated long-term relationships and laid a strong foundation for the development of arts education at the AGO.

As the Gallery celebrates our 75th year of Arts Education and we embark on the exciting Transformation AGO, we have invited some of our neighbours to create the exhibition Transformation City, which reflects on the important relationships between art, community involvement and everyday life in our neighbourhood.

In this exhibition, neighbours from local community organizations worked with artists to share their experiences of the community that surrounds Grange Park. Each work of art has its own compelling story, and they all communicate why art matters. In every way, Transformation City conveys the diversity of experience and collaboration that reflects the diversity of experience and collaboration that will carry us into our dynamic future.
