Spring showers have brought us flowers, and the heat of summer is almost upon us. That means a whole new line-up of adult, youth and children’s courses at the AGO. With life-drawing, painting, photography and more, there is something for every age group and every art-making style. This could be your summer of inspiration – take the plunge!

Check out this list of some of our favorites, or visit the website for more details.

Painting/Building/Printmaking Together

Need something to keep the little ones busy this summer? Check out the full list of child and youth courses including three all new one-day courses for children 6-10. With the guidance of an instructor, parent/child duos can build a model ship, try watercolour painting outside in Grange Park, or create their very own print inspired by ndigenous artist Norval Morrisseau.

Printmaking Explorations: Landscapes in Linocut

There’s nothing more inspiring than the sights, sounds and smells of a sunny summer landscape. Using basic printmaking techniques, instructors will help adult students capture the essence of summer in emotionally charged works of ink on paper. Need a quick Introduction to Printmaking? An intensive course is available before the summer session begins.

Sculpture Explorations: Animals Intensive

Ever wanted to pay the ultimate artistic homage to your favourite pet? This is your chance! Inspired by animals in your own life and historic representations of animals throughout art history, this course will teach adult students with some sculpture experience how to interpret the animal form.

Life Drawings in the Gallery

It’s time to get back to basics. With the help of instructors and professional life models, adult students will work on perceptual and technical skills while drawing the human form.  We recommend this course to all adult students who have already completed Introduction to Drawing.

City Explorations: Travelers Sketchbook

The city of Toronto is changing fast. You can capture the old and the new with this exciting plein air drawing course. Meander through the neighborhoods surrounding the AGO and draw inspiration from buildings both traditional and modern. Crunched for time? Take the same course, but as an intensive.

There are so many ways to make art this summer at the AGO. Registration for all adult, youth and children’s courses are now open!
