This online course introduces students to a range of media and techniques in drawing, as well as different application methods to develop an awareness of line, volume and form. Working with conte, graphite, and charcoal, this foundation-level course, taught live by an AGO Artist Instructor, draws upon the AGO's collections as a platform for teaching methods and techniques, and prepares students for advanced classes at the AGO.

Intro to Drawing (test)

This online course introduces students to a range of painting techniques, including different application methods to develop an awareness of line, volume, form and colour.  Students will complete a variety of projects using acrylic paint in this foundation-level course, taught live by an AGO Artist Instructor, that draws upon the AGO’s painting collections as inspiration.

Students to supply their own materials. Suggested material list will be provided.

Drawing from the Vaults

Did you know that the AGO has a massive vault of art full of pieces that are rarely exhibited? Now’s your chance to view the works and be inspired by what you see. Classes will take place in the Marvin Gelber Print & Drawing Study Centre.

Students gather in the Community Gallery located in the Weston Family Learning Centre at the beginning of class. Please check any oversized bags, portfolios and outerwear prior to the start of class. Participants must be 18 or older. Prior experience with drawing is recommended.

Cartooning

Using pencil, pen, brush, marker, acrylic paint and scratchboard, have fun exploring this unique and playful art form while tapping into your inner storyteller. Learn the art of drawing, storyboarding and character development in this exciting cartooning course. Students will work on flip books, trading cards, and other projects. All materials are included.

Introduction to Comics

Have fun with comics and cartooning. Inspired by comic genres ranging from surreal psychedelic to autobiographic graphic medicine, you’ll enjoy a variety of exercises and create a mini-zine by the workshop's end. Materials for the first class are provided. You’ll receive a list of materials required for subsequent classes.

This course meets in the Weston Family Learning Centre.  Must be 18 years or older. Suitable for beginners.
