Life Drawing

Age Range Description
Ages 14-18

Using the AGO collections as inspiration, students are introduced to the fundamental skills and techniques of drawing. Students explore concepts such as line and contour, perspective and proportion, light and shadow, gesture and more while experimenting with an exciting variety of artist's tools, media and contemporary techniques for expressive and imaginative mark-making. Materials may include pencil, charcoal, conte, oil and chalk pastel, and watercolour. In this course we work with a combination of still life objects and fully-clothed life models.

Life Drawing - March Break Intensive

Drawing Explorations: Pastel - Intensive

Dive into the vibrant world of pastels in our Drawing Explorations: Pastels course, designed for artists eager to explore this versatile medium. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this course offers a hands-on journey through the rich, velvety textures and brilliant colours that make pastels so unique. Guided by an expert instructor, you'll learn various techniques for blending, layering, and creating depth, from soft, ethereal effects to bold, dynamic compositions.

Outdoor Sketchbook

This four week en plein air course will meet in the lovely urban environment around the AGO and explore nearby locations with a sketchbook in hand.  Observe the urban environment and learn how to create an outdoor sketchbook full of drawings and paintings that capture the flavour of your surroundings. 

This course is suitable for all skill levels. Please meet in the South Entrance rain or shine.

Life Drawing - Four Day Intensive

Life drawing is about interpretation of the human form in its various shapes and postures, offering foundational skills in observation and empathy. Inspired by professional life models, guided practice sessions help you draw with greater confidence and ease by building both perceptual and technical skills. 

This drawing course is suitable for all skill levels. 

Please bring your receipt (printed or digital) and meet in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School.

Drawing Explorations

With the AGO's amazing collection as inspiration, young artists learn a variety of drawing techniques and skills. In this course, we take concepts children love to explore - colour, light, form, texture - and build on them, encouraging exploration of drawing tools and materials, both traditional and not so traditional.
