Art in the Spotlight: Jennifer Rose Sciarrino

Tuesday May 4, 4 pm

Join artist Jennifer Rose Sciarrino for a conversation about her work and inspiration with the AGO’s Adelina Vlas. They’ll touch upon Sciarrino’s intricately carved alabaster sculptures, recently acquired by the AGO, which evoke both delicate ecosystems and environmental harmony.

Jennifer Rose Sciarrino is a Toronto based artist working in sculpture, video and installation. Her work considers the human condition, our cause/effect relationship with the living world as well as the underlying entanglement of the micro and macro within nature and technology. Her solo exhibitions include from root to lip at Mercer Union, Toronto, Ruffled Follicles and a Tangled Tongue, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge and for Swan at Daniel Faria Gallery, Toronto. Sciarrino has exhibited her work nationally and internationally in group exhibitions, including Talking Back, Otherwise at the Jackman Humanities Institute, Toronto; NADA art fair in New York; trans/FORM at The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto; To What Does This Sweet Cold Earth Belong? at The Power Plant, Toronto. She is represented by Daniel Faria Gallery

Adelina Vlas is Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the AGO. Selected AGO exhibitions include Ragnar Kjartansson: Death is Elsewhere (2020), Haegue Yang: Emergence (2020), Hito Steyerl: This is the future (2019), Valérie Blass: Le parlement des invisibles (2019), Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors (2018), As If Sand Were Stone: Contemporary Latin American Art from the AGO Collection (2017).
