Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier: Ancient Forest Alliance

To celebrate the launch of the AGO’s major fall exhibition, Anthropocene, visitors during Nuit Blanche Toronto will be invited to contemplate how all of us (individually and collectively) are leaving a profound human signature on the planet.

In this video installation, Anthropocene artists Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier will create a compelling immersive experience in the AGO’s Walker Court, offering visitors the opportunity to experience both old-growth forest and deforestation on Vancouver Island, and to consider pristine environments and our impact on them.

Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Canadian Photography Institute of the National Gallery of Canada, in partnership with Fondazione MAST.

Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier are multiple award-winning filmmakers who also work in video installation, most recently producing content for the Tragically Hip’s Fully Completely and Man Machine Poem tours (2014/2016), as well as Watermark Cubed for Nuit Blanche 2013 and Ice Forms for the AGO’s 2016 Lawren Harris exhibition.

For requests for Verbal Description, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and/or live captioning for online and onsite programming, please provide three weeks notice in advance of the event date. The AGO will make every effort to provide accommodation for requests made with less than three weeks notice. Please note that automated captioning is available for all online programs. For onsite visits, the AGO offers these supports for an accessible visit. Please contact us to make a request for these or other accessibility accommodations.
