Shape of the Museum: Adam Levine
Museums and cultural institutions around the world are facing unique opportunities and challenges. This series of conversations invites professionals from around the world who are thinking about art and audiences, and learning in different ways. Join Adam Levine, the AGO's Assistant Curator of European Art in conversation with Kathleen McLean, AGO Assistant Curator of Talk Programs, about selected objects in the AGO’s European Collection that offer important direct links to the Transatlantic slave trade and colonization. How can these objects change the stories museums tell about colonialism? And how can museums be more engaged with contemporary movements for social justice?
Prior to becoming Assistant Curator of European Art in 2020, Adam Harris Levine held various curatorial roles at the AGO and conducted extensive work with the Thomson Collection of European Art. He is currently finalizing his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University, where he has also taught extensively. Levine’s area of specialty is medieval and renaissance sculpture and decorative arts.
Kathleen McLean is the Assistant Curator of Talks Programs & Screenings at the AGO. Previously she was Assistant Curator at the Art Gallery of York University. She has served on the boards of C Magazine and Art Metropole, and has been a juror for the Images Festival. McLean holds a Master’s in art history from York University.
