Shape of the Museum: Andrea Achi and Adam Levine

Join the AGO’s Adam Levine for a conversation with Andrea Achi, Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Assistant Curator in the Department of Medieval Art and The Cloisters, about bringing African histories to the Met's medieval art program.

Dr. Andrea Myers Achi holds a BA from Barnard College and a PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts. Dr. Achi specializes in the art and archaeology of Late Antiquity and has a particular interest in manuscripts and archaeological objects from Christian Egypt. With Helen Evans, she co-curated the exhibition Arts and Peoples of Kharga Oasis. Her recent exhibition Crossroads: Power and Piety, co-curated with C. Griffith Mann, explores how premodern cultures used the visual arts to express concepts of power and piety. Currently, she is working on curatorial projects related to The Good Life in Late Antiquity and Byzantine Art in Africa.

Prior to becoming Assistant Curator of European Art in 2020, Adam Harris Levine held various curatorial roles at the AGO and conducted extensive work with the Thomson Collection of European Art. He is currently finalizing his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University, where he has also taught extensively. Levine’s area of specialty is medieval and renaissance sculpture and decorative arts.
