Slow Art Day
Join us for Slow Art Day, a global event with a simple mission: to help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.
Drop in and enjoy a morning of mindfulness and light chair based yoga movements in Walker Court while gazing at Robert Houle's Seven Grandfathers from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Limited seating available. This event is suitable for all ages and abilities. No yoga mat is required.
Afterwards, join an AGO Art Educator on a close looking journey of the AGO collection. Meet in Walker Court at 1:00pm. Arrive early to save your spot.
Join an AGO Artist Instructor for an artmaking workshop focused on One Artwork for a slow, collective observation of the vibrant and expressive painting Daybreak by Rita Letendre followed by an art-making session. Letendre described her work as being grounded in metaphors of light, darkness and movement.
Schedule:
10:30 am – 12:30 pm: Drop-in chair-based yoga (free with admission, all welcome)
1 - 2 pm: Guided Tour (free with admission, all welcome)
2:30 - 4:30 pm: One Artwork Studio Workshop (registration required)
Why Slow?
When people look slowly at a piece of art they make discoveries and personal connections. The most important discovery they make is that they can see and experience art without being an expert. And that's an exciting discovery. It unlocks passion and creativity and helps to create more art fans.
How can I participate?
One day each year – April 5, 2025 – people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly.
