Looking forward to AGO Futures

We recently unveiled our exciting fall programming line-up, including a number of exhibition-related talks and screenings. This week we’re taking a closer look at AGO Futures, an expansive range of artist, author and curator talks that examines the current issues inspiring artists working today.

Here’s some of what you can expect from AGO Futures:

Naomi Klein

Hot on the heels of the release of her new collection of essays, On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal, Naomi Klein comes to the AGO on September 20 for a conversation with journalist Ishmael N. Daro exploring the staggeringly high stakes of our immediate political and economic choices.

Salman Rushdie

Booker Prize-winning, internationally bestselling author Salman Rushdie will be here on September 30 for a conversation with Candy Palmater, in celebration of the launch of his new novel, Quichotte.

Zadie Smith

On October 30, author Zadie Smith will join writer and broadcaster Eleanor Wachtel to discuss Smith’s first short story collection, Grand Union, and the themes that inform her work. This talk is now sold out.

Billy-Ray Belcourt: NDN Coping Mechanisms

On September 10, writer Billy-Ray Belcourt will take the Baillie Court stage for a conversation with Leanne Betasamosake Simpson about his new genre-bending work, NDN Coping Mechanisms: Notes from the Field.

Close Encounters: Kathleen Munn, Beneath the Surface

Join multidisciplinary artist, architect and filmmaker Daniel Arsham in Jackman Hall on October 4 for a conversation about his work and large-scale installation coming to Nathan Phillips Square for Nuit Blanche Toronto 2019.

Paul Seesequasis: Blanket Toss Under Midnight Sun

Blanket Toss Under Midnight Sun: Portraits of Everyday Life in Eight Indigenous Communities is a revelatory portrait of Indigenous communities from the 1920s through the 1970s, shown through never-before-published archival photographs. On October 25, writer and journalist Paul Seesequasis will join AGO’s Curator of Indigenous Art Wanda Nanibush in conversation.
