Why the AGO needs you
Today is Giving Tuesday! Why is art important, especially when there are so many other worthy causes to support? Here’s some food for thought.
Did you hear the exciting news? Last week we announced that more than 100,000 people have joined the AGO community since the introduction of the $35 AGO Annual Pass and free admission for visitors 25 and under. Better yet, the AGO’s game-changing new admission model pilot that brought the Annual Pass is officially here to stay. This Giving Tuesday, you can be a part of it, helping to make art accessible to all at the AGO – for generations to come.
There is a real buzz about the announcement happening throughout the Gallery, online and in the media (CBC, The Globe and Mail, NOW Magazine and the Times Colonist.)
But why is art important, especially when there are so many other worthy causes to support? We could write many AGOinsider articles answering that question, but here it is in a nutshell: we firmly believe that art increases our capacity to relate to one another; to understand the gamut of human emotions, and to build the confidence and vocabulary to express who we really are. It’s an important developmental tool for children, a vehicle for social connection for adults and a way to remain connected to memories as a senior. In today’s era of political and social polarization, art can bring us together in meaningful ways, which is more important than ever.
As a registered charity, the AGO relies on the ongoing generosity of AGO donors, sponsors, partners and Members in order to open our doors wider than ever. Whether you make a small one-time donation, an ongoing gift or the purchase of an Annual Pass or AGO Membership – it all helps!
That’s why this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to show your support for a museum that is dramatically increasing access to great art. Donate today and be part of something truly special.
Admission to the AGO Collection and all special exhibitions is always free for AGO Members, AGO Annual Pass holders and visitors 25 and under.
