Curator’s Talk: Hito Steyerl: This is the future

Friday November 29, 2019
Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario

Join Adelina Vlas, curator of Hito Steyerl: This is the future for a talk exploring the fifteen years of work by Hito Steyerl featured in the exhibition.

Hito Steyerl is an acute observer and interpreter of globalized and digitized cultures; her work often blends the personal with the political and irony with seriousness as she investigates how images are created, packaged and consumed. The exhibition includes some of the artist’s most iconic works to date, ranging from single-channel projections and video monitor works, to elaborate architectural environments.

Adelina Vlas is the associate curator of contemporary art at the Art Gallery of Ontario where since 2014 she has curated both permanent collection and special exhibitions. Previously, she has worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Canada. Over the last decade, she has organized exhibitions with artists including Carlos Amorales, Mohamed Bourouissa, Martha Colburn, Manon de Boer, Kara Hamilton, Tim Hyde, Jennifer Levonian,  Liz Magor, Sandra Meigs, Joshua Mosley, Fiona Tan and Tobias Zielony.
