March Break Performances: JG
These talks by JG are part of a series of talks and performances curated by AGO Artist in Residence Alicia Nauta as part of her March Break installation A book from the world tomorrow. Artist talks and musical performances at 2 pm daily.
JG's work emerges from the dated tradition of hand-made graphic design, with deep reverence for maximalism, high-fashion vanity, and mild surrealism. Their practice encompasses the process of silkscreen printmaking, self-publishing booklets, and producing installations of paintings that resemble a nail salon parlor seen through a technicolor lens. Their work has previously been shown at the Drake Hotel, Xpace Cultural Centre, POP Montreal, Possible Worlds, Monastiraki and Nouveau Riche. It has been made widely accessible as printed matter, supporting merchandise for numerous live music acts, as zines and content for a number of magazines. As a primarily self-taught artist, they are currently preparing to direct their time and state of mind into what is conventionally recognized as fine art, and are working on a graphic novel - to be published by POPNOIR EDITIONS in the spring of 2021.
