The September First Thursday: Back to Basics

Thursday, September 6, 2018
Art Gallery of Ontario

For the launch of our new season we go back to our founding principles: bringing together the next generation of local and contemporary artists across disciplines, who are establishing the new image for Toronto with art, sound and ideas.

This September's First Thursday showcase includes genre-hopping musical scenery from Anishinaabe electronic artist Ziibiwan, a live set by Nigerian born producer and songwriter LA Timpa and, to end the night, a DJ set by TR/ST, an artist known for a sound that converges pop, dance and goth dynamics. In Galleria Italia, you can also hear Classic Roots, one of Canada’s best kept secrets, while in the galleries there’s artist interventions by Jessica Karuhanga, and talks from such cultural visionaries like Tao-Ming Lau, founder of Blue Crane Agency and The Rude Collective and at the door, a one-of-a-kind artist-designed program by the one and only Chaddy-Ann Newton.

As always, you can expect delicious food and drinks in the AGO’s Night Market along with a special selection of works from Out of the Vaults.

For requests for Verbal Description, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and/or live captioning for online and onsite programming, please provide three weeks notice in advance of the event date.
