Collage and Mixed Media: Inspired by Pacita Abad

In this course on collage inspired by Pacita Abad, students will immerse themselves in the vibrant and eclectic world of mixed media art, drawing inspiration from Abad’s innovative techniques and colourful compositions. Known for her use of bold patterns, textures, and vibrant colours, Abad's work serves as a rich source of creativity for exploring collage as a dynamic art form. Participants will initially create papers for collage using surface design techniques such as stamping, stenciling, offset and monoprint, staining, scraping etc. We’ll create vibrant collages using these papers. We’ll develop low relief assemblage works, combining fabric, paint, and found objects to create multi-layered, visually engaging pieces. The course will cover Abad's signature techniques, including the use of texture and layering, while encouraging students to experiment and develop their own artistic style. By engaging in hands-on projects and discussions, students will not only gain technical skills but also a deeper appreciation for the expressive potential of collage in contemporary art.

This course is suitable for all skill levels. Meet in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School.
