Free After Three Thursdays: Screen Shadows

Ages 14-25

Create collaborative shadow performance pieces on the large screen in Jackman Hall created by the light of a 35mm projector. Your shadow creation will contain handmade 2-dimensional Victorian artefacts, including costume pieces, that will cast shadows to create the imagery and story.

Alexi Manis is a teacher, movie maker, projectionist and musician. She loves traditional celluloid film and working with inspiring youth. She's currently taking sewing courses and is excited about another great Leafs season coming up.

Free After Three Thursdays: Black Magic

Ages 14-25

Engage yourself in one of the earliest forms of camera-less animation by scratching away black emulsion coating on a strip of celluloid film and watching the handmade lines, designs and words come to life on screen through a 16mm projector.

Christina Spina is a professional Makeup Artist working in various areas of the industry such as film and television, theatre, fashion, and special events. With a background in Fine Arts, Christina is constantly seeking inspiration and applying her findings to her daily makeup work.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Zine Party

Get ready to get creative, and join this group zine party! Learn how to make saddle stitch, poster, and sewn zines. Materials will be provided, including a photocopier, so you can make multiples and swap with friends.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Tie Dyeing

Join Toronto artist Paddy Leung for a tie dye party! Bring one item of white clothing (100% cotton) and learn a variety of dyeing techniques. The first 40 participants will get a free t-shirt!

AGO Youth Drop-ins

The AGO is the place to be for youth ages 14 to 25. Free drop in programs run in Fall, Winter and Spring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm in Weston Family Learning Centre. Participate in tie dyeing, sticker making, silk screening, skateboard building, mix tape making, movie screenings and break-dancing workshops. No registration or cost required. Come on out to this special Halloween - themed workshop with Paddy Leung and let us help you create the D.I.Y. costume of your nightmares! Materials will be provided, including fabric, paper, glue, markers, paint, and tape. You will have the opportunity to showcase your one-of-a-kind costume at the Halloween Runway Show on October 31!

Learn the 101s of Break dancing in a safe and supportive atmosphere — beginners welcome! In partnership with Unity Charity

Unity uses arts to empower youth with the confidence and skills for success. More specifically, Unity uses hip hop to improve young people’s lives creating healthier communities. Hip-hop is a relatable and easily accessible network of art forms (dance, beatbox, spoken word, and graffiti) that provides a healthy space for youth.
