Inner Space is a monthly web series co-curated by the Inner Space Youth Advisory and AGO staff; welcoming artists from across Canada to present personal studio tours. This month we meet artist Sammo Mossa,  born in Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills and now based on Prince Edward Island. Having never taken his art seriously, the pandemic pushed him to take his craft to the next level by moving from paper to canvas. SAMO© is an abbreviation for “same old shit” used both by Al Diaz and Jean-Michel Basquiat. It was first developed as a comic book character that doubled as a made-up religion, while the two were in high school. Sammo Mossa’s moniker is a tribute to the universe created by these two artists; an attempt to expand their made-up religion into a cult.
