Lisa Jackson: "Unearthed"

"Unearthed" is a film component of Anishinaabe filmmaker Lisa Jackson’s first installation Transmissions, a three-part immersive multimedia work that extends her investigation into the connections between land, language and people. “Unearthed" features Jeneen Frei Njootli in a single shot performance which was filmed live in front of an audience at the 2017 imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival and a soundscape adapted from "Heavy As Light," by Laura Ortman and Raven Chacon. "Transmissions" is rooted in Indigenous futurism, collapsing past and future to evoke possibilities where knowledge systems that emerged on and from these territories find their place.

Lisa Jackson’s award-winning film work spans documentary, fiction, animation, performance art film, and 3D IMAX. Her works have screened at top film festivals, exhibited in galleries and aired on television. Her 2018 virtual reality piece "Biidaaban: First Light" premiered at Tribeca, is exhibiting worldwide, and won a Canadian Screen Award. It is a sister project to Transmissions. Jackson continues to work in film and television. lisajackson.ca
