See Toronto’s sunniest spot before it's too late!

Winter can be grim. The days are dark and grey. A short jaunt outside can feel like an exercise in cold weather endurance. If you’re craving light and colour, look no further than Sandra Meigs’s immersive exhibition, Room for Mystics, on Level 5 of the AGO’s Vivian & David Campbell Centre for Contemporary Art until January 14.
A giant, bright red mobile with thick-lashed eyes and a wide grin looks over the exhibition, featuring 30 colourful and diverse paintings made specifically for this installation. The lighting is purposefully bright – making everything pop, including the large yellow and white tapestries on every wall.
The exhibition isn’t just a feast for the eyes – it’s a feast for the ears too! Meigs collaborated with composer Christopher Butterfield to make Room for Mystics a multisensory experience. An audible tone reverberates throughout the exhibition space, based on the resonant frequency of the room: 23.125 Hz or ±F#. If you visit at 11:30 am, you’ll see a brass trio wearing bright yellow jumpsuits enter the space to perform a piece composed by Butterfield.
As many visitors and our staff have said, it’s hard not to feel joyfully transformed by visiting the exhibition.
