Tafelmusik: Making Herself Heard

Friday May 17, 7 pm
Walker Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

Celebrating the creativity and artistry of women in the 17th and 18th centuries, this concert features musicians whose renown as composers and performers was all but ignored in the annals of history. In bringing their work out of the shadows, we discover in a fresh, “new” soundscape in the works of Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Marianne Martinez, and the enigmatic Mrs. Philarmonica.

The performers are a quartet of musicians from Tafelmusik: violinists Geneviève Gilardeau and Cristina Zacharias, cellist Michael Unterman, and harpsichordist Charlotte Nediger.

Presented as part of Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800.

Founded 45 years ago on the pillars of passion, learning, and artistic excellence, Tafelmusik brings a fresh perspective to historically informed performance. From dynamic live performances at Jeanne Lamon Hall in Toronto’s historic Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre and stunning Koerner Hall, to international tours, award-winning recordings, and inspiring education programs, Tafelmusik is a musical powerhouse with a reputation for thrilling and delighting audiences.
