Water and light are a magical combination. And they inspired Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde’s large-scale light installation Waterlicht, which comes to Toronto this week.

Premiering at The Bentway (under the Gardiner Expressway), running October 12 to 14, this evocative installation – using LED lights, special software and lenses – will feature cascading waves of blue light to simulate a virtual flood. The work calls attention to rising water levels around the world due to global warming.

"Waterlicht is a powerful and poetic experience, reminding us of the role and importance of innovation. It’s also inspiration for the future. Can we build floating cities? How much power can we generate from the movement of water?" Roosegaarde told us.

The talk will explore water sustainability and climate change – topics connected to our fall exhibition, Anthropocene.
