Colour Harmony

In a workshop suited for painters and non-painters alike, you’ll explore colour theory and principles of colour harmony used in painting and other media. Learn about the power and sheer joy of colour using the AGO Collection as inspiration. Materials for the first class are provided. You’ll be working with acrylic paint and will receive a list of materials required for subsequent classes.

Watercolour Explorations: Still Life

Discover the unique properties of watercolor and practice a variety of application techniques with hands-on experimentation. Students will learn though quick exercises and the development of more resolved pieces. Master works such as, Jean-Siemeon Chardins, Jar of Apricots will inspire contemporary compositions. A visit to through galleries will reveal a broad range of works.

Introduction to Painting

Have fun learning about different painting styles and creative techniques. Use the AGO Collection as inspiration so you can complete a variety of projects.

Portrait Painting Intensive

Using direct observation to build your skills, you’ll explore basic portrait painting concepts, learn from demonstrations of painting technique and visit the galleries for added inspiration. Materials for the first class are provided. Acrylic paints are required. Students will receive a list of required materials for the following classes.

Online Painting Explorations: Portraiture

With the AGO’s amazing collection as inspiration, you will explore a variety of painting techniques and styles. In this online course, we take the foundational elements of colour, light, form, and line – and build on them, encouraging the exploration of approaches both traditional and not so traditional.

While suitable for all skill levels, we recommend beginning with Introduction to Painting.
