AGO Live: Early Rubens in-gallery harpsichord performances

Sunday October 12, 2019 - Sunday January 5, 2020
Sam & Ayala Zacks Pavilion

The AGO invited The Canadian composer and musician Owen Pallet to arrange music to be performed in Early Rubens. Inspired by the power of Ruben's religious paintings to spiritually uplift the viewer, Pallett's compositions, in his works, evoke "the concept of the infinite - a sense of spiritual vertigo."

Arranged for harpsichord - in honour of Antwerp's musical history - the in-gallery performance pieces are Pallett's adaptations of two Julius Eastman compositions. Eastman was born in New York in 1940 and died at the age of 49. His dynamic and arresting style represents a contemporary response to Ruben's art.

Performance Times:

Wednesdays - 6 pm

Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays - 2 pm

Please note that performance times are subject to change.

Featured performers: Christopher Bagan, Stephanie Chua, Daniel Morphy and Wesley Shen.

Harpsichords provided by Claviers Baroques.
