Mean tweets…just nicer

Have you ever watched a Mean Tweets video? You know, the cringe-worthy yet highly entertaining segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live when celebrities targeted by online bad-mouthing read and react to what was said about them? We took inspiration from Jimmy and created our own (nicer) version, based on the amazing feedback about our new AGO Annual Pass.

Shop talk

Our new General Manager of shopAGO, Deepak Chopra doesn’t just want you to exit through the gift shop. He hopes you take a moment to connect with local artisans and spend some time discovering items that might remind you of your experience at the AGO once you get home – like art prints, art books, jewellery, home décor and much more.

With a number of new retail partnerships and initiatives taking shape at shopAGO this fall, we connected with Deepak Chopra to get a better sense of his approach.

The Mime, the Model and the Dupe

Featuring ten new sculptural works that can be described as witty, subversive, dark and humorous, Valérie Blass’s Le parlement des invisibles is an exhibition to experience in person. Visitors who have been intrigued by Blass’s playful sculptural investigations of the human form will have the opportunity to join the artist tomorrow (September 11) for a conversation about the inspiration for the exhibition, and where her creativity will take her next.

Wearable art

The vibrant colours and dramatic lines of the Group of Seven co-founder Lawren S. Harris’s work have found a new home with the Toronto design brand, Jeanne Lottie. The newly released Harris Collection features a series of beautifully designed products printed with one of Harris’s most famous oil paintings: Lake and Mountains from the AGO Collection.

Beneath the surface

What do you get when you mix an education in chemistry with a passion for art and art history? An art conservator, of course! The AGO’s Art Conservation Department is not only one of the largest in North America, but also a key player in the development of art conservators.
